Electro-convulsive equipment

The electro-convulsive therapy started in Brazil in 1934. This was a psychiatric treatment using an electric shock in the brain, by means of two electric threads applied in the brain's temporal regions.

The electric current was applied through a specially built machine that had a chronometer and a voltmeter.

With this treatment, the desired result was that the patient, after going through a widespread convulsion, would overcome the crisis.

The electro-convulsive therapy was used in the "Colônia Juliano Moreira" until the eighties, after which it was abolished.
