This set of photos, which is part of the Madness Memory exhibition, was produced in partnership with HumanaSUS, the Mental Health area and the CGDI (General Coordination of Documentation and Information of the Ministry of Health). These photos tell the story of the Brazilian psychiatry, the accuracies and the mistakes of the psychiatric practices, since the creation of the Hospício Pedro II (Pedro II Asylum) up to our present days, the favorable developments reached after the publication of Law Nº 10216 of April 6, 2001, called the Anti Asylum Law, dealing with the gradual extinction of the traditional psychiatric institutions and the creation of the CAPS (Psycho-Social Daily-Care Centers). These CAPS together with the Occupational Therapy Residential Services that started after the GM (Ministry Cabinet) Decree Nº 106 dated February 11, 2000 was issued, are today an essential part of the Mental Health Policy Department (Ministry of Health) They are nowadays vitally essential to patients leaving psychiatric hospitals trying to reintegrate into society.
